What metrics do you like to have on your watch display?

My next blog post is going to cover my two favourite metrics to have on my watch display when I am racing.

Interested what other people find useful to have on their watch display? Are there things you dont like to see while you are racing?

Do you change it for training runs?

Let me know!

For training I just keep it as normal unless I am doing a specific session and then Ill have it as normal.

Races I have it on the interval display and then start a new interval when I leave an aid station. I use it as a little reset for each section so my focus becomes the distance I have covered (and still have to cover in this section) as well as the time elapsed. I find its easier to calculate my nutrition then because I base it on time since last aid station (where I have likely taken on fuel) as opposed to the whole race.

Love that tactic! I think particularly in really long events it can help to break it into small bite size chunks and seeing the number getting bigger and bigger on your watch can totally start playing with your mind. Could see how it would help with nutrition as well :)

@MoeJ

I prefer to just have elapsed time and total vert shown for races. Most of the races I like doing usually have a lot of vert so tracking how much I've done and then figuring out how much I have left helps me conserve energy for big climbs yet to come. Alternatively If I know I have knocked over most of the vert already I can put more effort into the flats/downs from there on out.

I think most people look at the distance to determine when to conserve energy but factoring how much vert youve done and have to do is definitely the smarter play!

Must admit I have never really bothered that much about changing up my watch displays for races or training.

Reading these I can see the merit but I just leave it on the normal distance and time elapsed and try not to focus on it too much. It's there if I want to look at it obviously but mostly I just try focus on the race and whats going on around me.

I wish I could be more like that. Trail maths is very real and has definitely made me spiral on more than one occasion hahaha
